NimbeLink Partners with Verizon and Sequans to Deliver Industry’s First Category M1 Modem for Use on Verizon’s LTE Network

NimbeLink, an award winning developer of cellular IoT and M2M solutions, announces the development of Skywire Cat M1 modems for Verizon’s LTE cellular network. Cat M1 modems are specifically designed for Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications requiring low power consumption and utilizing low bandwidth. The Cat M1 modems will enable a low cost cellular solution, while taking full advantage of the capabilities of Verizon’s LTE network. As with all Skywire modems, Cat M1 modems will be end-device-certified and available with comprehensive developer kits for fast, easy deployment.

The NimbeLink Cat M1 modem is based on the Sequans Monarch LTE platform, the world’s first LTE Cat M1/NB1 chip from Sequans Communications S.A. The Monarch chip is purpose-built and specifically optimized for narrowband IoT applications. It is designed for low-power, low data applications like wearables, sensors, and battery-powered deployments.

“Together, Skywire Cat M1 modems and Verizon's LTE network simplify deployment of IoT applications on LTE and makes connectivity more affordable than other technologies, including legacy cellular options,” said Scott Schwalbe, Founder and CEO of NimbeLink. “This is another example of NimbeLink’s commitment to work with partners to keep customers on the leading edge of the exploding IoT market.”

"We are thrilled to be working with NimbeLink to accelerate the development of IoT applications and connected products that will operate on Verizon’s LTE network,” said Chris Schmidt, Executive Director Device Technology at Verizon. “With the introduction of NimbeLink’s CAT M1 certified modems, device OEMs and developers now have a complete set of tools to go from prototype to commercial launch quickly and efficiently.” Mr. Schmidt continued, “We are moving rapidly to develop Cat M1 solutions for the IoT market and have achieved the first successful data call with the Sequans modem on the live network.”

“Skywire modems have an excellent reputation for quality and usability in our industry and we are pleased to contribute our Monarch technology to the newest member of the Skywire product family,” said Georges Karam, Sequans’s CEO. “LTE Cat M1 technology is of paramount importance to the LTE-for-IoT market and the new Sequans-powered Skywire modem will enable the development of a vast new wave of LTE for IoT devices.”

As a leader in designing and producing end device certified modems and edge devices, NimbeLink is committed to helping customers take full advantage of Cat M1 capabilities and speeding their innovative products to market with both modems and tools, including development kits and microprocessor shields.
