NatWest FY20 Loss on High Provision Levels; Phased Exit From Republic of Ireland

NatWest Group plc (NatWest or the Group) reported a loss after tax of GBP 20 million in Q4 2020, compared to a gain of GBP 1.5 billion in Q4 2019. In FY20, the loss was GBP 434 million (vs. gain of GBP 3.8 billion, which included about GBP 2.1 billion of notable one-off items in FY19 as the pressure from the pandemic on revenues materialised through lower fee and commission income as well as high loan loss provisions. The loss attributable to ordinary shareholders was GBP 109 million in Q42020, and, in FY20, it was a loss attributable to ordinary shareholders of GBP 753 million.
