MetLife Takes Brighthouse Charge in 3Q, but Underlying Results Solid

A $1.1 billion charge related to the spin-off of Brighthouse pushed no-moat-rated MetLife to report a small loss for the third quarter. While this has a negative impact on near-term results, we still believe that the company's separating itself from its most volatile lines was a positive move for MetLife in the long run.
