Strong Credit Quality Caps Off Good Finish to 2016 for PNC; Raising Our Fair Value Estimate to $98

Narrow-moat-rated PNC’s fourth-quarter results capped a strong quarter, while full-year 2016 results were slightly below 2015's. We are increasing our fair value estimate to $98 per share because of the time value of money.
Results were largely stable compared with the third quarter, with the return on assets improving slightly to 1.13% and return on equity increasing to 9.31% from 8.74%. Net income grew 4%, but this was largely due to even lower provisioning, as credit quality remains pristine...
