IBERIAN DAILY 13 MARCH (ANÁLISIS BANCO SABADELL)

NEWS SUMMARY: ELECTRICITY SECTOR, OHLA, TELEFÓNICA.

Stock markets take a break
European stock markets ended with gains, spurred by the solid US inflation data and the renewed possibility of a peace agreement in Ukraine. The IBEX, the only European index in the red, stayed above 12,800 points. In the STOXX 600, the best-performing sectors were financials (Banks and Insurance), along with Industrials, whereas Retail and Basic Materials posted the biggest losses. On the macro side, in Spain, January’s retail sales slowed more than expected YoY. In France, the BoF cut its GDP growth forecasts’25-26 to 0.7% and 1.2%, respectively. In the US, both general and core inflation for February slowed their advance more than expected. On another note, the Democrats are not willing to approve the extension of financing through Sept’25 to avoid a shutdown next Friday. Meanwhile, the Trump administration threatened with new tariffs to the retaliations of the EU and Canada. In Brazil, February’s inflation rose in line with expectations.
What we expect for today
European stock markets would open with slight losses of up to -0.5%. Currently, S&P futures are down -0.5% (the S&P 500 ended flat vs. the European closing bell). Asian markets are falling (China’s CSI 300 -0.5% and Japan’s Nikkei -0.2%).
Today in the euro zone and Mexico we will learn January’s industrial output and in the US February’s production prices and weekly jobless claims.
