The US dollar remains under pressure, with a story yesterday morning that the Chinese were going to restrict US bond purchases. The US bond market, which has been under pressure for a little while, didn’t like that idea and was quite weak. This didn’t support the US dollar.
Copper led the way following better Chinese statistics and is now five US cents per pound ($/lb.) firmer at $3.13/lb.; nickel was up a tad at over $5.25/lb.; aluminium gained a half cent/lb. to 94 cents/lb.; lead rose one and a half cents/lb. to $1.12/lb. and zinc jumped three and a half cents/lb. to $1.485/lb.
