In the first nine months of 2017, Tunisair recorded a 17.4% increase in the number of transported passengers compared to the same period of the previous year. The total number of registered passengers amounted to 2,730,610 against 2,325,520 as of 30/09/2016. The market share improved to 41.9% from 39.3% in the same period of 2016. The RPK rose by 21.6% to 4,416.1 million. On 30/09/2017, the airline recorded a 25% increase in transport revenues to TND918.699m.
During the first quarter of 2017, Tunisair recorded a 4.8% increase in the number of transported passengers compared to the same period of the previous year. The total number of registered passengers amounted to 687 368 compared to 656 080 in 2016. The market share deteriorated in this quarter to 47.9% against 50.5% in the same period of 2016. In Q1 2017, the airline recorded an increase in transport revenues of +15.62% to TND223.398m.
During the last quarter of 2016, Tunisair saw an increase of 11% in the number of transported passengers compared to the same period of the previous year. The total number of registered passengers is 666,321 compared with 602,269 in 2015. Average fuel prices per tonne decreased by 14% in the last quarter of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015. The market share deteriorated in the last quarter to 41.9% against 45.2% in the same period of 2015.
Sarra Ben Rejeb has succeeded what her predecessors have failed to achieve since 2011. The former presidential aircraft, Airbus A340, was purchased by Turkish Airlines for TND181.6m (a Net book value on 31/12/2014 is TND184.7m). During 2015, Tunisair’s revenues decreased substantially by 30% to TN856.9M. The troubled security situation in Tunisia (Bardo Museum attack and the terrorist attack against the Imperial Hotel in Sousse) in 2015 was the main reason behind this fall. Moreover, the average revenue per passenger for scheduled flights decreased from TND251 to TND239. During 2015, the RPK gave up 19.8% to establish at 4,128.4 million. The occupancy rate lost 370 basis points to 68.1%.
At the end of Q3 2014, Tunisair’s revenues reported a huge decline of 27.5% to TND642.5M. Indeed, the halt of connection with Libya coupled to the latest events, in particular, the Bardo Museum attack and the terrorist attack against the Imperial Hotel in Sousse, further aggravated the carrier’s situation. These unfavorable circumstances caused losses of TND250M. Moreover, this decrease is also explained by the decreasing average revenue by passenger for scheduled flights from TND232 to TND2...
