Procivis: First live implementation of digital credentials in Switzerland by the city of Zug with Procivis technology

Zurich, 17 September 2024 – Since September 2024, the city of Zug has become the first authority in Switzerland to issue digital credentials  in a productive environment. Thereby, Zug is already implementing digital credentials, which are planned to be introduced at the federal level in Switzerland's E-ID ecosystem by 2026. The Zug eGovernment platform, eZug, now integrates the Procivis One software solution for  securely issuing, managing, and verifying  digital credentials. The advantage of this solution is that users can benefit from verifiable digital credentials without the need to install an additional app on their smartphones. The application is designed to be future-proof, ensuring interoperability with the federal identity wallet that is scheduled to be introduced in 2026. 

First live implementation of digital credentials by an authority in the private sector

As the first use case, the city of Zug is issuing a digital employee certificate to over 500 teachers. This digital credential is presented via the eZug-App and entitles the teachers to a discount at selected stationery stores in Zug. This solution replaces the physical card and the annual effort of attaching validity stickers. It makes the purchasing process more efficient and can be easily integrated into the sales process of the stationery stores. Further use cases are planned. For example, the digital issuance and verification of permits for market stalls are being evaluated, which is expected to have positive effects on the processes of both the city and the market stall operators.
