California Virtual Academies to Celebrate Class of 2017

This month, nearly 900 students will earn their high school diplomas from the California Virtual Academies (CAVA) – 10 independent online public charter schools, including nine with high schools, throughout the state. Due to the large graduating class, CAVA will hold seven in-person graduation ceremonies across California over the next week, with two in San Bernardino on June 8, one each in Fresno and San Diego on June 12 and two in Vacaville and one in San Gabriel on June 13.

A total of 53 CAVA students achieved a grade-point average of 4.0 or better throughout their high school careers to earn the title of valedictorian. CAVA @ San Diego student Steven Miller will deliver valedictory remarks during the morning ceremony on June 8, while CAVA @ Maricopa senior Courtney Wells will address her classmates in the afternoon. On June 12, Zachariah Whitmore from CAVA @ Maricopa and Marshall Hartman from CAVA @ San Diego will speak in Fresno and San Diego, respectively. Finally, CAVA @ Los Angeles senior Amina Chaudhry will address her fellow graduates in San Gabriel on June 13, while Karissa Carleton from CAVA @ Sutter and Gianna Vescio from CAVA @ Sonoma will speak in Vacaville during the morning and afternoon ceremonies, respectively.

“We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of so many amazing students,” said April Warren, head of schools for the California Virtual Academies. “We know that CAVA has prepared them for whatever their next steps may be and we can’t wait to see what the future will bring for each of them.”
