Iowa Virtual Academy Opens 2017-2018 Enrollment for Families Seeking Online School Option

Iowa Virtual Academy (IAVA), an online public school program of the Clayton Ridge Community School District, is open for enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year for students in grades K-12 who reside anywhere in the state. Families considering Iowa Virtual Academy must submit an application before the state’s open enrollment deadline of March 1, 2017 (September 1, 2017 for kindergarten students). Submitting an open enrollment application does not commit students to enrolling at IAVA next fall, but it provides them the option to do so.

“Iowa Virtual Academy is a high-quality, tuition-free school option for Iowa families who are seeking alternatives for their children,” said Steve Hoff, Iowa Virtual Academy Head of School. “This program is a good fit for many different types of students, including advanced learners, students who are seeking relief from bullying, and students who need a more accommodating schedule in order to nurture an extracurricular pursuit or balance their education with necessary medical treatment.”

Iowa Virtual Academy serves families and students who seek alternatives to a traditional brick-and-mortar education. Through live and recorded class sessions that are accessed online, students and their teachers can engage and interact as if they were sitting together in a traditional classroom. Students also complete schoolwork using hands-on educational materials that are shipped to their home.

Each student is supported by an Iowa-certified teacher who monitors student progress while providing professional insight and instruction. Teachers communicate with students via phone, email and the online classroom technology in order to provide a highly individualized approach that helps prepare students for career or college success. Teachers aim to establish a partnership with parents, so the students benefit from a strong network of support.

Families are encouraged to take the necessary steps to ensure they have access to an effective educational option for their students next school year. IAVA will host several online and in-person events through February to help parents learn more about the program in advance of the March 1, 2017, open enrollment application deadline.
