Online School Seniors to Accept Diplomas in a Virtual Graduation Ceremony

K12 International Academy (iCademy), an accredited online private school open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade worldwide, will honor the Class of 2017 on Friday, June 23rd. Unlike traditional graduation ceremonies for brick and mortar schools, this innovative ceremony will happen online starting at 11 a.m. EDT.

“We’re excited about our virtual ceremony celebrating student accomplishments,” said Miriam Rube, head of school at iCademy. “K12 International Academy is home to an extremely diverse population of students.”

The K12 International Academy student population represents every state in the U.S. and over 90 countries around the globe. Most students take a college preparatory curriculum over a four-year period and students graduate with a U.S. diploma. Eligible seniors may also enroll in a dual enrollment program to obtain college credits.

This year, 157 students from 31 states and 23 countries will graduate from iCademy. The Class of 2017 reports it has been offered more than $2.5 million in college scholarships collectively. Graduates report they have been accepted to numerous prestigious colleges and universities including Brandeis University, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Connecticut, University of Maryland, New York University, Northeastern University, Penn State, Purdue University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rice University, University of Southern California, University of Texas, Texas A&M University and Williams College, among others.

Rachel Cross is the Class of 2017 valedictorian. Cross competes on the junior tennis circuit and is currently a top-5 player in Virginia. She plans to play college tennis at Williams College.

The Class of 2017 salutatorian is Liana Hamm. Hamm volunteers at a local hospital and a senior care center. She is an active member of the Morgan County Republican Women’s Club and worked on the 2016 Illinois primary election. Hamm plans to attend Rice University where she will major in economics.

Operating since 2008, K12 International Academy’s 2016 graduating class reported a 100 percent college acceptance rate.
