Texas Online Preparatory School Invites Students to Enroll for 2017-18 School Year

Texas Online Preparatory School (TOPS), a tuition-free online public school, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2017-18 school year. A college prep magnet school authorized by the Huntsville Independent School District, TOPS serves advanced learners in grades 3-12 throughout the state.

Accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and AdvancED, TOPS is a college preparatory school that provides advanced learners with a rigorous education. To attend, students must have met a minimum passing standard on the previous year’s STAAR scores, have had 90 percent attendance during the prior school year, show proof of prior Texas public school enrollment and (for high school students) be on track to graduate.

The school offers a robust Advanced Learner Program, honors and AP® courses and dual credit opportunities, where qualifying students also have the ability to participate in dual enrollment options in college courses tuition free.

“At TOPS, we provide high-achieving students the opportunity to not only complete their high school education, but also to get a jumpstart on college,” said Tina Littell, interim head of school at Texas Online Preparatory School. “We do everything in our power to set our students up for success academically and beyond.”

The comprehensive education approach at TOPS focuses on providing top-performing students with the academic, social and emotional support needed to succeed in school and beyond, and qualifying students earn the ability to school with additional flexibility.

TOPS offers classes in six core subjects – English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music – and a variety of elective courses. Texas-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support and interact with students and families via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings, ensuring that students and their families feel supported yet challenged in their education in a way that may be different for every student.

TOPS also offers an active, supportive school community, which organizes student clubs, outings and field trips for all grade levels.

Information sessions are being held online and in-person throughout the state during the enrollment period. For more information and a list of events, please visit http://tops.k12.com.
