Virginia Virtual Academy Now Accepting Enrollments for the 2018-2019 School Year

Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA), a public school program of the King and Queen County Public Schools, the Patrick County Public Schools and the Richmond City Public Schools, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-2019 school year. An online public school program available tuition-free to students across the Commonwealth, VAVA is adding 11th grade this upcoming school year. VAVA will expand again to offer grades K-12 for the 2019-2020 school year.

VAVA students access a robust and comprehensive online curriculum. Students are offered a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, language arts, history, art and music, as well as a variety of electives. They attend live virtual classes taught by experienced and dedicated Virginia-licensed teachers.

“With VAVA’s online platform, I can really be innovative in how I engage my students,” says 5th grade science teacher Shannon Crawford. “There are so many opportunities for hands-on experiences, and I can plan activities that maximize student participation before, during and after a live class session.”

In addition to live online sessions, teachers regularly communicate with students and families via email and phone. Students also have access to resources such as books, workbooks and materials for offline projects and to complete required coursework. VAVA gives students the opportunity to pursue their academic goals in a supportive environment and at an appropriate pace for their learning style.

Students choose VAVA for a variety of reasons, including a bullying-free environment, advanced learning, and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. Outside of the virtual classroom, VAVA offers online student clubs and in-person field trips, community service opportunities, and social gatherings to foster a sense of school community.

Enrollment is now open for the 2018-2019 school year. Students and families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school. More information on VAVA, how to enroll and a schedule of upcoming events can be found at vava.k12.com.
