AB Science announces the lifting of the ANSM clinical hold

AB Science SA (NYSE Euronext - FR0010557264 - AB), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and commercialization of protein kinase inhibitors (PKIs), announces today that the Agence Nationale de la Sécurité des Médicaments (ANSM - French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety) has lifted its suspension of clinical studies conducted by AB Science in France.

As a reminder, the ANSM decision to suspend clinical studies was made on May 11, 2017.

This lifting of the clinical hold follows:

  • An in-depth restructuring of the Company launched after the ANSM suspension decision in May 2017. This restructuring focused on the clinical development reorganization, in particular the pharmacovigilance department, the implementation of an upgraded Quality Management System, new IT tools, and a full reassessment of masitinib safety data as part of the new system.
  • An ANSM inspection, which ensured that the conditions required to lift the clinical hold had been met.

The restart of clinical studies is contingent upon authorization by the ANSM and an ethical committee of an application file submitted by AB Science and including the latest Investigator Brochure, which incorporates the most recent safety data with a cut-off date of February 7, 2019.

AB Science will hold a web conference in the coming days to communicate its outlook for 2019.

About masitinib

Masitinib is a new orally administered tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets mast cells and macrophages, important cells for immunity, through inhibiting a limited number of kinases. Based on its unique mechanism of action, masitinib can be developed in a large number of conditions in oncology, in inflammatory diseases, and in certain diseases of the central nervous system. In oncology due to its immunotherapy effect, masitinib can have an effect on survival, alone or in combination with chemotherapy. Through its activity on mast cells and microglia and consequently the inhibition of the activation of the inflammatory process, masitinib can have an effect on the symptoms associated with some inflammatory and central nervous system diseases and the degeneration of these diseases.
