The company was recognized for excellence in five categories, including Best New Development, Best Use of Green & Sustainable Construction or Development, Best Public/Private Partnership Development, Most Creative Financing and Best Bandwidth/Connectivity Solution.

Since the inception of the Student Housing Business Innovator Awards, ACC has received an industry-leading total of 24 awards, furthering its best-in-class reputation among colleges, universities and industry partners. To date, ACC has completed the development of 125 communities, representing a total development of $6 billion, acquired $5.3 billion in student properties, and currently owns and manages more than 132,000 beds at 97 collegiate campuses across the country.

“It’s an honor to be recognized again this year by the prestigious Student Housing Business magazine,” said William Talbot, American Campus Communities Chief Investment Officer. “At ACC we’re dedicated to the student experience, from building communities with an eye toward sustainability, to developing best-in-class connectivity solutions to support academic success, to creating custom financing structures for our partners.”

The individual awards are:

  • On-campus: Best New Development – OSU-Cascades Residence & Dining Hall

OSU-Cascades Student Residence Hall and Dining Hall is a three- and four-story student community that accommodates 300 undergraduate and graduate students with spacious apartments, amenities for academic and personal success, and a two-story dining hall that provides a variety of food concepts.
  • On-campus: Best Use of Green & Sustainable Construction or Development – Fairview House at Butler University

The first development in the Butler University-American Campus Communities partnership, Fairview House is a modern, academically oriented student housing community on the Butler University campus. On track to receive LEED Gold certification, the community features recycled and local construction materials, sustainable energy performance, bicycle parking spaces, and low-flow fixtures throughout the community.
  • On-campus: Best Public/Private Partnership Development – Fairview House at Butler University

In Fall 2016, Butler University and American Campus Communities embarked on a dynamic public-private partnership with the development and opening of Fairview House, an on-campus, mixed-use modern student housing community that marks the first step in realizing University President James M. Danko’s vision for a “platinum level residential experience” on the Butler University campus.
  • On-campus: Most Creative Public/Private Financing – Honors Academic Village at The University of Toledo

The Honors Academic Village features 492 beds in modern, suite-style floor plans, and state-of-the-art amenities designed with today’s university students in mind. Through close collaboration with the University, American Campus Communities financed the project through a transaction structure using project-based, tax-exempt bonds. ACC entered into agreement with Toledo to provide ongoing management services for the Honors Academic Village, which opened in fall 2015.
  • Off-campus: Best Bandwidth/Connectivity Solution – Pavlov Media

In partnership with Pavlov Media, ACC delivered significant enhancements to 25Twenty, an off-campus student housing community serving students attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock. As a result of the enhancements, the community now offers students a 1,000 Gigabit bandwidth circuit, which is connected to Pavlov Media’s 10 Gigabit fiber optic network. The enhanced connectivity supports a variety of the community’s resources for academic success, and has achieved strong resident satisfaction.

The annual Innovator Awards are designed to honor excellence in development, architecture/design, sustainable design and development, finance, marketing and promotion and amenities in student housing properties, on- and off-campus. Winners are selected by a jury of student housing industry executives.
