SIA and University of Phoenix Announce the Security Industry Association Scholarship Program

The Security Industry Association (SIA), the nonprofit association representing global security companies, and University of Phoenix today announced the Security Industry Association Scholarship Program. Through the SIA Scholarship Program, 10 full-tuition scholarships will be offered to full-time employees of SIA member companies to work toward an undergraduate or graduate degree from University of Phoenix.

“The SIA Scholarship Program provides employees of SIA member companies with an unparalleled opportunity to enhance their careers through achievement in higher education,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “This opportunity represents precisely the sort of value SIA strives to provide its members, and I am very grateful to University of Phoenix for working with us to help change the lives of 10 ambitious individuals.”

University of Phoenix continues to focus on meeting educational needs across industries. The security sector is formidable, with an estimated $410 billion annual market in the United States alone1, further emphasizing the need to make career-relevant education available in this industry.

“The Security Industry Association is one of the leaders in the security industry, and University of Phoenix College of Information Systems and Technology is proud to partner with SIA to offer higher education opportunities to employees of its member companies,” said Dennis Bonilla, executive dean, University of Phoenix, College of Information Systems and Technology. “These employees are advancing the future of the security industry, and University of Phoenix has the career-relevant curriculum, experienced faculty and career resources available to help them continue to be innovators.”

Three essays and a letter of recommendation will be required of all applicants. High importance will be placed on the applicant’s desire to advance in their education, with an emphasis on enhancing their careers, and their impact in the security industry in which they reside. Applicants must submit their materials by Jan. 10, 2017; however, SIA and University of Phoenix will stop accepting applications once 150 qualified submissions have been received.

Recipients of the scholarship will be notified by March 2, 2017. All applicants with a submitted application will be notified of the status of the scholarship by the award date via email, regardless if selected as a recipient or not.
