DXC Foundation Announces Youth Computer Coding Challenge in 2018 to Inspire Digital Technology Skills in Students

To inspire technologists of tomorrow, DXC Foundation will host a global coding competition called “DXC Codes,” and invites children ages 10 to 14 to submit computer program coding projects for a chance to win local prizes and a global championship.

By supporting education initiatives for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), DXC strives to spur a passion for programming and computer sciences in today’s youth.

DXC Foundation is the philanthropic arm of DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC), the world’s leading independent, end-to-end IT services company. In 2017, DXC Foundation launched DXC Codes, engaging more than 1,700 youth from 14 countries in the competition’s first year.

“The competition is a fun way for youth to discover computer science,” said Dan Hushon, senior vice president and chief technology officer, DXC Technology. “DXC Foundation created a platform to introduce kids to STEM technology and computer science, and to learn fun, valuable skills. We hope DXC Codes will inspire a passion for programming that benefits kids now and through their adulthood.”

The second-annual competition is open worldwide to children ages 10 to 14, and schools and independent youth groups are encouraged to participate. Registration opens Jan. 8, 2018. The competition rules and rubrics will be released on Feb. 1, 2018.

Teams of three will have until April 27, 2018, to develop and submit an online project, which will be reviewed by a panel of judges for creativity, originality, technical merit and accuracy, as well as good programming practices. Awards will be given per category and age group. Winning teams may also advance to a global championship.
