Humana Ranks No. 7 Among America’s Healthiest 100 Workplaces

(NYSE: HUM) has ranked No. 7 on the list of the “Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America,” compiled by Healthiest Employers to honor companies that see employee well-being as a strategic corporate capability that’s crucial for a productive, top-performing workforce.

With the awards, Healthiest Employers highlights companies that treat employee well-being as an enterprise strategy. Scores are based on population health outcomes and six values: vision, culture/engagement, learning, expertise, metrics and technology.

Winners were announced at the 2018 Fitbit Captivate conference in Chicago. The winning organizations were honored for their commitment to employee health and exceptional corporate well-being programming. Over 1,000 of America’s top companies were evaluated for this award across the country.

Humana practices whole-person well-being, encompassing employees’ sense of purpose, belonging, health and security. Such commitment -- modeled by company leaders and woven into the business plan -- makes for healthier employees who can thrive in their daily lives and make a difference in the lives they touch.

Humana has a Bold Goal to improve the health of the communities it serves 20 percent by 2020 by making it easier for people to achieve their best health. Striving to achieve the Bold Goal internally over five years, Humana employees have improved their own health – gaining 1.8 million more Healthy Days by the end of 2017 than they would have otherwise experienced.

Health and well-being are the most popular topics on Humana’s internal social media channels, reflecting a powerful social movement that unites the company’s employees with a common bond. The company’s research shows that employees with high levels of belonging -- showing empathy and compassion for one another -- experience six times fewer mentally Unhealthy Days. Those with high overall well-being also experience three times less stress, miss three times less work, are less likely to look for another job, and are more engaged.

The physical results are also striking. Despite aging five years, 63 percent of continuously employed Humana employees since 2012 reduced or maintained biometric health risks associated with chronic disease, reversing the expected trend.

Humana’s annual 100 Day Dash also unites and inspires employees. This year, more than 20,000 Dashers took nearly 14 billion steps; and since the first Dash in 2012, more than 43.2 million miles have been logged.

Humana employees also find meaning in volunteerism, and the company provides them time off to pursue that. Roughly half of employees have actively logged time volunteering in their community thus far this year.

Other benefits shown to improve health and well-being at Humana are flexible work arrangements, financial education guidance, and network resource groups. Humana’s health and wellness rewards platform, , offers personalized activities, tracking, support and rewards to encourage healthier lifestyles. Over 90% of Humana’s employees participate.
