InterDigital Honored At 2018 Glotel Awards: Highly Commended For Advancing The Road To 5G Through 5G-Crosshaul

WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, was honored at the 2018 Global Telecoms (GLOTEL) Awards for its groundbreaking contributions to the 5G-Crosshaul project, an integrated backhaul and fronthaul transport network to support 5G. InterDigital earned a Highly Commended award in the category “Advancing the Road to 5G.”

5G-Crosshaul was a Horizon 2020 5GPPP project consisting of a consortium of 20 of the world’s leading global technology players, including InterDigital, Ericsson, Nokia, NEC, Orange, Telefonica and Telecom Italia.  The consortium was selected in 2015 to develop what has become the de-facto concept for the 5G integrated fronthaul/backhaul transport network.

The 5G-Crosshaul transport network established a new approach for integrating backhaul and fronthaul transport networks under a common NFV/SDN resource fabric. This is achieved through the implementation of a control infrastructure using a unified, abstract network model for control plane integration and a unified data plane encompassing innovative high-capacity transmission technologies, as well as novel deterministic-latency switch architectures.
