Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, has been selected by AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR) to lay the foundation for its Energy Smart Community (ESC) in Ithaca, New York.
AVANGRID is a diversified energy and utility company with electric and natural gas operations serving 3.1 million customers in New York and New England. The company will deploy Itron’s OpenWay Riva and smart gas solutions to 12,400 electric customers and 7,300 natural gas customers of New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) in Ithaca. NYSEG is installing Advanced Metering Infrastructure in the community to support AVANGRID’s ability to serve as a Distributed System Platform provider to advance New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision initiative.
Itron’s OpenWay Riva solution will provide the foundation for the ESC project with a highly secure, multi-application network infrastructure. The solution features distributed computing power throughout the network, enabling real-time analysis of data and peer-to-peer communication among intelligent devices at the edge the network. These capabilities enable AVANGRID to manage rapidly changing grid conditions and deliver new services and value to its customers. The company will also benefit from the solution’s adaptive communications technology, which will deliver high performance communications with optimized connectivity in a single, unified network and communication solution. In addition, AVANGRID will take advantage of Itron’s analytics and meter data management software-as-a-service (SaaS).
