Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced that Roanoke Gas Company, provider of natural gas to customers in the greater Roanoke, Virginia area and a subsidiary of parent company RGC Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ: RGCO), is collaborating with Itron to modernize its gas distribution system. Roanoke Gas will utilize Itron to operate more efficiently and improve service to its customers.
With the solution, Roanoke Gas Company will gain greater visibility into its system and reduce costs, improve reliability and ensure overall system integrity, using detailed meter data. The solution allows the utility to gather meter reads remotely via mobile data collection, which eliminates estimated billing and the need for field workers to enter the customer premise. This improves safety, customer privacy and convenience. The utility will use Itron’s cloud-based Field Collection System (FCS) to collect meter data and provide it to meter data management and customer billing applications.
