NORMA Group to develop new urea transport systems for a French car manufacturer

- Bi-SCR systems for exhaust gas purification to meet the Euro 6d standard

- More than 700,000 diesel passenger cars to be equipped by 2026

Maintal, Germany, January 31, 2019 - , a global market leader in engineered joining technology, has received an order from a French car manufacturer to develop and supply state-of-the-art urea transport systems (UTS). Bi-SCR urea transport systems help meet the emission requirements of the Euro 6d standard, which will apply to new vehicles starting in 2021. NORMA Group will develop the line systems together with the customer by 2020. More than 700,000 vehicles will be equipped with the new UTS by 2026.

"As a technology leader, we are committed to actively shaping the future of our markets with innovative products. Increasingly stringent emission standards present our customers with challenges in which we stand by them," said Bernd Kleinhens, CEO of NORMA Group. "Winning this contract underscores the confidence leading international automobile manufacturers have in the innovative and development expertise of NORMA Group."

Bi-SCR urea transport systems enable continuous exhaust gas purification, because, compared to conventional UTSs, they have two injectors for injecting urea solution into the exhaust tract. Urea injection triggers selective catalytic reduction (SCR), in which the climate-damaging nitrogen oxides (NOx) and ammonia are broken down into the harmless substances water and nitrogen. The catalysis process requires temperatures of between 250 C and 400 C. NORMA Group's latest UTSs are equipped with an additional urea injector located close to the engine. The exhaust gas temperature is high enough here to start catalysis shortly after the vehicle is started. If the temperature there rises too high for catalytic exhaust cleaning after prolonged engine running, the injector in the underbody area of the vehicle is used.

NORMA Group's Bi-SCR urea transport systems are made of weight-saving plastic and can combine pipe sections with internal and external electrical heating. The heatability ensures that the urea solution, which has a freezing point of -11 C, can also be used at outside temperatures as low as -30 C. The line systems can be installed quickly and safely in the vehicles using quick connectors. From 2020 on, the Bi-SCR lines will be produced at NORMA Group's plant in Serbia, which specializes in the manufacture of complex line systems made of weight-reducing thermoplastics.
