PPG Foundation Invests $45,000 in Chicago STEM Education Initiatives

PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced that the PPG Foundation invested $45,000 to support Chicago-area nonprofit organizations that serve students pursuing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers. The grants highlight PPG’s commitment to increasing STEM educational opportunities for young people. The donation was made on behalf of PPG’s architectural coatings business.

The grant recipients and programs are:

  • Lumity – $10,000 to support Lumity’s Career Readiness and STEM Pathways program, which provides high schools in underserved communities access to student programing that boosts the likelihood of students graduating high school, pursuing higher education and securing employment. The program also fosters networking and communication skills.
  • Chicago Urban League – $15,000 toward the economic, educational and social progress of African Americans and the Chicago Urban League’s Project Ready, which is a middle school/STEM module and summer camp that inspires youth to pursue STEM academics and careers.
  • Project SYNCERE – $10,000 toward Project SYNCERE’s mission of creating pathways for underrepresented and disadvantaged students to seek out STEM careers. The funds will support expanding the nonprofit’s E-CADEMY program, which provides year-round opportunities for students in grades six to 12 to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for their success in college and beyond.
  • Lewis University – $10,000 to support programs offering a liberal arts and professional education to a diverse student population. These include expanding Lewis University’s Girls Create with Technology program through the addition of a co-educational STEM program that exposes middle and high school students to technology concepts.

“As a global innovator in paints and coatings, PPG is committed to continued advancements in technology and science, as they are at the core of what we do,” said Justin Williams, PPG regional sales manager, Chicago, Northwest Indiana and Wisconsin markets. “By supporting students in their exploration of these fields, we can help them gain real-world experience and foster their interest in pursuing a career in STEM.”
