SDL Brings Powerful New Online Functionality to Trados GroupShare 2017

SDL, a leader in global content creation, management, translation and delivery, has today announced a significant update to SDL Trados GroupShare 2017, introducing powerful new web-based enhancements that offer even greater control and collaboration between project managers and global translation teams. These include the addition of SDL’s intuitive Online Editor with Concurrent Editing, and enhanced upLIFT functionality.

The explosion of content is placing enormous pressure on enterprises, translators and Language Service Providers (LSPs) to meet the highest translation standards. And it’s not getting any easier. Maintaining quality was recently cited by 9/10 corporations as their top challenge – now and in the next 5 years.

Tight deadlines and increased demand compound the issue, making it even more difficult to keep translation standards high. SDL Trados GroupShare 2017 addresses these challenges, automating the many manual processes involved in organizing localization teams, giving project managers – and translators – access to the agile online tools they need to work collaboratively, and deliver the highest industry standards.

Major enhancements in the latest release include:

  • Online Editor

With a strong focus on the user experience, the browser-based translation and review tool allows multiple users to work concurrently on the same file, and enables translators and reviewers to work on projects without opening SDL Trados Studio. It is ideal for projects with short deadlines as more users working on the files speeds up the process.

It is also compatible with Microsoft Office, and incorporates useful features such as track changes and comments, as well as introducing real-time concurrent editing. It also brings back the popular vertical editor, with the option to switch between horizontal and vertical layouts.

  • Concurrent Editing

Multiple people involved in the editing and review process can now work on the same document within Online Editor. If deadlines are tight a reviewer can review a file while the translator is still working further down the document. It introduces an agile, flexible way of reviewing and collaborating throughout the translation supply chain.

  • upLIFT technology

Translators benefit from the same upLIFT fragment recall and fuzzy repair technology already available in SDL Trados Studio, helping them get more from their translation memories. It works by analyzing the source text, and suggests fragments (or whole sentences) to the translator that have already been translated in the past, saving considerable time and effort in the translation process.

“Corporations and LSPs continually strive to deliver high-quality content, at scale. They’re also faced with tight deadlines, and keeping costs down. Translation project management and asset sharing will become critical to addressing these challenges,” said Massimo Ghislandi, EVP Translation Productivity, SDL. “Our latest release addresses these issues, giving translation teams a powerful web-based and agile platform to manage this increasingly flexible way of working.”

An interactive online dashboard also instantly shows project managers the status of all projects. They can access all admin tasks, and also quickly set up roles and permissions for team members from the interface. In just a few minutes a translator can securely begin working on a project from any location.
