Golden Valley Electric Association Selects Silver Spring Networks to Deploy Multi-Application Advanced Metering Platform in Alaska

Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) and Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI) today announced that GVEA has selected Silver Spring’s multi-application IPv6 platform for the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). GVEA is an electric cooperative operating across a 5,973-square-mile service territory in the interior of Alaska, and its system is interconnected with four military bases and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. GVEA selected Silver Spring Networks to help modernize its grid infrastructure, improve system reliability, increase operational efficiencies, and enable its members to better manage their energy use.

Silver Spring is expected to begin deployment of the system this summer and is intended to serve GVEA's nearly 50,000 homes and businesses.

“Our mission is to provide our member-owners and communities with quality customer service and innovative energy solutions. By working with an industry leader such as Silver Spring, we are investing in new technology that will help GVEA operate more efficiently and improve outage restoration. Our members will be able to monitor energy consumption more precisely and make more informed decisions to manage their electrical usage,” said Cory Boregson, President & CEO, GVEA. “We are excited about deploying Silver Spring’s multi-application IPv6 network platform in Fairbanks and the interior communities we serve.“

“Access to two-way IoT connectivity platforms and solutions shouldn’t be limited by size, geography or climate. Our multi-application and standards-based approach allows us to provide the most flexibility and choice for our customers, while also delivering grid technology to modernize their infrastructure,” said Craig Lawson, Senior Vice President – North America, Silver Spring Networks. “We are honored to work with GVEA to bring this innovation to its members in the interior of Alaska.”

With more than 26 million enabled devices delivered on five continents, Silver Spring works with cooperative, public power, and municipal utilities, including American Municipal Power, Choptank Electric Cooperative, City Utilities of Springfield, CPS Energy, Modesto Irrigation District, New Braunfels Utilities, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, and Snohomish County Public Utility District, to deliver its proven, reliable and IPv6 standards-based platform.
