City of Wichita, Kansas, Selects Tyler Technologies’ Munis Financial System

Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) has signed an agreement with Wichita, Kansas, for Tyler’s Munis® enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. In addition to the core financial, procurement, and human capital management functions, this agreement includes integrated content management through Tyler Content Manager as well as Munis analytics and reporting to support Wichita’s financial, human resources (HR) and payroll operations. Additionally, the city will protect their data with Tyler Disaster Recovery services.

The city sought to integrate its financial, payroll and HR processes. For the past 25 years, it had been using two systems that were creating process redundancies. Officials chose Tyler’s integrated Munis solution to offer several critical benefits over its current systems.

Wichita will benefit from the following features:

  • A user-friendly and familiar end-user interface
  • Employee and vendor self-service portals
  • Easy-to-use reporting tools for staff with non-technical backgrounds
  • A single software platform and single relational database, which will combine all functions and create efficiencies
  • Electronic workflow and a robust content management system to store and retrieve electronic images of supporting documents such as purchase orders, invoices, and payments

Wichita’s agreement with Tyler will also help elevate the city’s involvement in the “What Works Cities” initiative, one of the largest-ever philanthropic efforts to enhance the use of data and evidence in the public sector. Wichita was selected as one of 12 new cities this year to participate in the program, which is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and launched in April 2015. It is designed to help cities use data to improve the lives of its residents. “What Works Cities” collaborates with participating municipalities – 40 cities in total – and reviews their current use of data and evidence to identify both best practices and growth areas.

“Wichita is making significant strides to utilize data to actively improve the lives of our citizens and best position ourselves for future growth,” said Jeff Longwell, mayor of Wichita.

“We’re pleased to bring Tyler’s Munis solution to Wichita and also support them in this unique initiative to better serve their constituents,” said Chris Hepburn, president of Tyler’s ERP & Schools Division. “By creating efficiencies and introducing an easy-to-use tool, we hope to significantly streamline Wichita’s HR and financial operations.”

Wichita will also benefit from Tyler's evergreen perpetual licensing approach that provides regular and significant, yet manageable, software enhancements without an additional relicensing or service fee, ensuring the county has continued access to evolving technology.

Wichita is the 48th largest city in the country and most populated city in Kansas, with nearly 390,000 residents.
