Progress in the company’s recovery

Vodafone Qatar reported marked improvement in its H1 2016/17 results, except for the top line performance. Indeed, Vodafone’s H1 2016/17 revenues decreased by 6.2% to QAR1bn, primarily due to a conscious decision to move way from low margin business, the reduction in regulated telecom rates, and the decrease in the Mobile customer growth (-2%, yoy, to 1.457 million). Note that prepaid customers were 6.3% lower following the completion of customer base clean-up. By contrast, postpaid customers were up by 27.9% accounting for 16.7% of the total base (vs. 12.8% in H1 2015/16) thanks to the growth achieved in both Consumer and Enterprise segments, leading to an increase by 23.2% in postpaid revenues and to a 29.6% contribution to total revenues (vs. 21.8% in H1 2015/16). The Prepaid segment remains the main revenue contributor with 62.8% (vs. 62.9% in H1 2015/16), with revenues decreasing 9.2%, due to the impact of one-time customer base clean up, and to the continued migration of international voice to VOIP, causing significant ARPU erosion (-5.4%, yoy). Thus, other revenues decreased by 55.7% at QAR72m.
