Anglo American (AGL) continues to be rated as having "good" governance practices. However, we believe that the Group's remuneration practises have shortcomings.M Cutifani's total remuneration increased by 106% y/y following the vesting of his 2016 LTIP awards.AGL has a large proportion of its tailing dams constructed using the upstream method which have been in the spotlight following the Vale dam collapse in Brazil. In addition, thermal coal exposure is facing increased pressure from investors due to its negative environmental impacts and poses as a risk to the Group.
