McDonald’s is one of the most known fast-food restaurants in the world, operating in
over 100 countries. Founded in 1940, McDonald’s expanded through franchises (which
compose 93% of its restaurants) and own-operated restaurants. The company is mostly
known for its hamburgers, but it has expanded its menu to include breakfast items. The
large presence of McDonald’s in the world makes the company one of the most
recognizable and valuable brands in the world. The typical franchising agreement is one
where McDonald’s owns the land and buildings (or has a long-term lease) and rents
these to the franchisee, to use, which then must pay for the equipment necessary to
start the business. The franchisee also pays a rent and a royalty fee based on sales.
McDonald’s often co-investments with its franchisees and provides loans when needed.
It also helps with setting up the restaurant process. McDonald’s is a dividend aristocrat,
consecutively increasing its annual dividend.
McDonald's franchises and operates McDonald's restaurants. The company's menu includes hamburgers and cheeseburgers, Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Filet-O-Fish, several chicken sandwiches, Chicken McNuggets, wraps, fries, shakes, McFlurry desserts, sundaes, soft serve cones, pies, soft drinks, coffee, McCafe beverages and other beverages. The company's restaurants in the United States and various international markets provide a full or limited breakfast menu. Breakfast offerings may include Egg McMuffin, Sausage McMuffin with Egg, McGriddles, biscuit and bagel sandwiches and hotcakes. The restaurants also sells a variety of other products during limited-time promotions
