Gabourey Sidibe Performs This is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare for Audible

Audible Studios, a production arm of Audible.com, today announced the release of Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe’s This is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare. Performed by Sidibe, the audiobook delivers a wise and complex account of the American experience that is at once irreverent, hilarious, and unorthodox. This recording is now available for download at www.audible.com/gabourey.

“Even though I wrote this whole book, reading it out loud for the Audible version has helped me learn about myself,” said Sidibe, who also has starred in three seasons of American Horror Story. “I’m really glad that I read it myself, and had fun performing the voices of my friends and family throughout.”

“Sidibe’s funny and moving memoir will resonate with anyone who has ever felt different, or hopes to accomplish far-reaching dreams in spite of great opposition,” said Audible EVP and Publisher Beth Anderson. “The intimate experience of hearing her share anecdotes from her own life makes this Audible edition an absolute must-have for her legions of fans.”

This is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare releases simultaneously in print today.

With a 30-day membership trial at Audible, new listeners can enjoy any one audiobook, including this beautifully performed production of This is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, free.

In addition to Sidibe, among the acclaimed performers who have narrated works of literature for Audible are Sean Penn, Nick Offerman, Zachary Quinto, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, Emma Thompson, James Franco, and Jesse Eisenberg. In 2013, Audible Studios won its first Grammy Award, for its production of Janis Ian’s memoir Society’s Child, and also won the Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year, for Colin Firth’s performance of Graham Greene’s The End of the Affair.

Audible, the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word content, invented and commercialized the first digital audio player in 1997, and has since been at the forefront of the explosively growing audiobook download segment. In 2016, Audible members downloaded an average of 17 books over the course of the year. More than half of new Audible members are first-time audiobook buyers.
