2017-18 School Year Enrollment Now Open for Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy

Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA), an accredited, full-time online public charter school, welcomes families with students in kindergarten through 12th grade to enroll for the 2017-18 academic year. Open, tuition-free, to all students who reside in Michigan, MGLVA is known for helping students become self-motivated learners and independent thinkers through live online sessions with teachers.

MGLVA offers an individualized approach to learning, using engaging curriculum to ensure every student receives an exceptional learning experience. For students in grades K-8, online course offerings include language arts/English, math, science, history, art and music, as well as foreign languages. High school students enjoy a course catalog of more than 150 core, elective, Career Tech Education and Advanced Placement® courses. These courses meet the needs of the Michigan Merit Curriculum. Dual enrollment is also available, which allows students to earn college credit and high school credit for the same course.

Students are supported by state-certified teachers who respond quickly to requests, provide online academic instruction, monitor student progress and attendance, and serve as a resource for curriculum, content, and questions. Parents and students communicate with teachers through e-mail, phone calls, and online class meetings.

“As we head into our fifth school year, we’re excited to engage new families in our individualized approach to learning,” said Kendall Schroeder, head of school at Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy. “The rigor of our curriculum combined with forging a strong partnership between the parent, student, teacher, and school as a whole is what brings about the exceptional learning experience students receive here at MGLVA.”

To ensure a seamless transition to online learning, parents and students participate in an extensive onboarding process that involves student and Learning Coach orientations, help sessions and online learning courses facilitated by the MGLVA Family Academic Support Team. This onboarding support is designed to help students and parents build new school relationships, and to set students up for success while building strong independent learning skills.

Families also have access to online student clubs, monthly regional outings, and a strong start website that features extensive Learning Coach resources.

MGLVA is now accepting enrollments for the 2017-2018 school year. Parents are encouraged to attend one of the online information sessions hosted by the school each month. More information on MGLVA and upcoming events can be found at http://mglva.k12.com/.
