Arizona Virtual Academy Begins 2017-18 School Year

Students at Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA), an accredited, online public charter school, will begin the 2017-18 school year on Aug. 9. The school, which is open to students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade, marks its 14th year of operation.

AZVA’s rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as Advanced Placement® courses for high school students. Students are also provided the opportunity to earn concurrent enrollment credit, meaning they can earn college credit while still enrolled in high school, at no cost to the family, as long as the student meets the eligibility criteria.

Phoenix Business Journal has ranked AZVA among the top 50 public high schools in Arizona based on SAT scores two years in a row.

“Our students are not all the same, with the same aspirations, the same learning styles and the same needs, so it makes sense that one type of school might not work for all students,” said Elizabeth Nelson, a math teacher at Arizona Virtual Academy. “Traditional brick-and-mortar school is not for everyone; some need a different education option, and that is where AZVA comes in.”

At AZVA, state-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. As a public school option, there is no tuition.

AZVA also offers a unique blended learning program, combining online courses with in-person instruction and support. Blended learning centers are located throughout the Phoenix Metro area, as well as Kingman and Tucson, and feature on-site instruction, student enrichment and socialization opportunities.

AZVA is still accepting enrollments for this fall. To learn more, visit azva.k12.com.

Elizabeth Nelson is available to take media members “behind the scenes” to demonstrate how online learning works.
