Destinations Career Academy of Colorado Students Gather for In-Person Graduation

Destinations Career Academy of Colorado (CODCA), an accredited, full-time online public school program, will celebrate the Class of 2017 with an in-person graduation ceremony on Friday, June 2 at 5 p.m. on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Forty-six high school seniors will graduate from CODCA, the only online Colorado Department of Education-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) program in the state. CODCA offers CTE courses in the fields of health sciences, business, marketing, agriculture, programming, STEM, and web design, offering students the opportunity to explore career fields both in and out of the classroom.

CODCA is the first online school in the state to receive the top level of approval from the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE) for the business, marketing, health sciences and programming pathways.

Students statewide in grades 6-12 prepare to earn technical credentials and may earn college credits and gain workplace experience while still in high school. Other learning opportunities include interview preparation, team collaboration and effective communication. Graduates from CODCA are well prepared to enter a two- or four-year college or the work force.

“Graduating from CODCA sets students up for future success,” said Teri Cady, head of school at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado. “Our students are graduating high school with real-world technical skills they can put to immediate use after high school, and we can’t wait to see where their futures take them.”

With a 4.16 grade-point average, Casey Jones is the Class of 2017 valedictorian, while Sarah Kilsch is the salutatorian. Ann Marie Andrews, a CODCA health sciences teacher, and Angela William, District 33 Colorado senator, will deliver remarks to the graduating class, and CODCA teachers and staff will be in attendance to recognize the students’ achievements.

The Class of 2017 has been offered nearly $40,000 in college scholarships. The graduates report that they have been accepted to a number of colleges and universities, including Colorado State University, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, University of Northern Colorado, University of Lethbridge, Full Sail University, Aurora Community College, Pueblo Community College, Front Range Community College, Arapahoe Community College, Frank Phillips College and Aims Community College. In addition, one student plans to enlist in the United States Army and another in the U.S. Air Force.
