North Carolina Virtual Academy Students Head Back to Online Classes August 21st

Students and teachers at North Carolina Virtual Academy (NCVA), an online public charter school, head back to the virtual classroom on Aug. 21st. A statewide school authorized by the North Carolina State Board of Education and available tuition-free to students statewide in grades K-12, NCVA offers a rigorous and engaging curriculum. The 2017-18 school year will mark the first time NCVA will have a senior class, and the school will celebrate its first-ever graduating class next spring.

NCVA students tackle a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, language arts, history, art, music and physical education, as well as electives, honors and Advanced Placement® courses in high school. Lesson plans for each subject are integrated throughout the school year, so students can apply what they are learning in one class to the lessons they encounter in another.

North Carolina-certified teachers facilitate live, interactive online classes, and communicate one-on-one with students via phone and email. NCVA provides families across the state with an innovative education option, and with personalized learning plans to meet the needs of every student. Last year the school served students in 95 of the 100 counties in the state, from diverse backgrounds.

“Thanks to online learning, NCVA is able to offer students and their families a public school option that meets their unique needs,” says Head of School Joel Medley. “Our dedicated staff is able to personalize instruction to meet our students' needs.”

NCVA also offers the Career & College Promise program for students with a desire to progress at an advanced pace. Students are able to enroll in both NCVA and participating North Carolina community colleges and universities, earning college credits along with their high school diploma.

NCVA is still accepting applications for students in grades K-10 for the 2017-2018 school year. To learn more about enrollment and to find an upcoming online information session, visit http://ncva.k12.com/how-enroll.html.
