Utah Virtual Academy Welcomes Students for 2017-18 School Year

Students at Utah Virtual Academy (UTVA), an accredited online public charter school, will begin their 2017-18 school year on Aug. 22. The school, which serves students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade, begins its 10th year of operation.

The rigorous and engaging curriculum at UTVA includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, art and music, as well as six world languages and nearly 40 electives and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students.

The school has a robust Advanced Learner Program for younger students, and high schoolers can get ahead by earning college credits through in-person and online concurrent enrollment available at Salt Lake Community College, Snow College and Dixie State University.

UTVA also offers the Destinations Career Program, a career technical education (CTE) program which prepares full-time students in grades 9-12 for college and careers and provides them with relevant technical skills in two career fields – information technology and health sciences.

“At UTVA, we are committed to helping students maximize their academic potential,” said Meghan Merideth, head of school at Utah Virtual Academy. “Our program allows families and teachers to work together to allow our students to reach their goals and experience learning in ways that are typically not possible in traditional schools.”

Students have the choice to enroll full-time or remain in their local high school or homeschool setting and enroll through the Statewide Online Education Program in up to six full-year online courses from the K12 catalog.

This spring, UTVA received a silver STEM school designation from the Utah State Board of Education. The designation serves as an indicator for members of the public who are looking for quality science, technology, engineering and math school experiences in Utah K-12 education.

At UTVA, state-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.

UTVA offers an active, supportive school community and a range of extracurricular activities, including student government and other clubs, as well as school field trips and social gatherings.

UTVA is still accepting enrollments for this fall, but once the school reaches its cap, enrollment will be closed until the second semester. To learn more, visit http://utva.k12.com.
