Wyoming Virtual Academy Welcomes Students for 2017-18 School Year

Students at Wyoming Virtual Academy (WYVA), an accredited online public school, will begin their 2017-18 school year on Aug. 22. Students attending the school come from across the state of Wyoming, often remote areas where they may not otherwise have the opportunity to access an education like WYVA.

A program of Niobrara County School District #1, WYVA is open to students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade. The school’s personalized educational experience includes small-group instruction opportunities and one-on-one teacher interaction.

The rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as electives, honors and Advanced Placement® courses. State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with parents and students via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.

“At WYVA, teachers work to have consistent communication with students to show that we are not just invested in them as our students, but that we truly care about them as individuals,” said Jennifer Schultze, a music teacher and high school advisor at Wyoming Virtual Academy. “Trust is built when students see you care, which leads to educational success.”

Eligible students can also earn college credit tuition-free while still in high school through concurrent enrollment in online courses at Eastern Wyoming College, with credits easily transferable to the University of Wyoming. Students can receive up to 32 credits to apply both to their high school diploma and post-secondary degree.

WYVA also creates a sense of community through regularly scheduled regional educational field trips and social outings, providing close collaboration between teachers, staff and students.

WYVA is still accepting enrollments for this fall. To learn more, visit http://wyva.k12.com.

Jennifer Schultze is available to take media members “behind the scenes” to demonstrate how online learning works.
