MACOM Announces Availability of 2nd Generation 12G-SDI Cable Driver and Equalizer Family for Broadcast Video Applications

MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. (“MACOM”), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for broadcast video infrastructure, today announced the availability of the MACD-23528C 2nd Generation 12G Serial Digital Interface (SDI) Cable Driver and MAEQ-23644C/54C/64C 2nd generation 12G-SDI equalizer family. These long reach adaptive devices offer customers advanced performance solutions for 4K broadcast video applications.

MACOM’s MACD-23528C cable driver exceeds all of the physical layer specifications noted in the SMPTE ST 2081-1 and ST 2082-2 standards. This 2nd generation device further improves performance by increasing the output signal’s inner eye opening, lowering output jitter and extending cable reach. The MACD-23528C also incorporates a programmable pre-emphasis feature, which allows customers to completely optimize performance based on their own unique board and connector configurations.

MACOM’s 12G SDI equalizer family includes the MAEQ-23644C, MAEQ-23654C and MAEQ-23664C devices, all providing adaptive, low noise, high gain equalization for 75 ohms coaxial cable at data rates from 19 Mbps to 11.88 Gbps. These devices are multi-rate, highly integrated cable equalizers with integrated relockers to support next generation SDI video performance. To request more information, please click here.

“We are excited to announce the availability of this second generation chipset to our customers,” said Mike Fukatsu, Product Marketing Director, High-Performance Analog, at MACOM. “By further improving upon the performance of our first generation chipset, MACOM enables broadcast equipment suppliers to bring to market 12G-SDI equipment with the longest cable reaches possible.”

Featuring footprint compatibility with MACOM’s first generation M23428 cable driver and M23544/54/64 equalizer family of devices, this second generation cable driver and equalizer family enables an upgrade path for existing designs with minimal changes to existing customers. Additionally, both the first and second generation 12G-SDI chipsets are footprint compatible with MACOM’s high-performance, low power 3G equalizer families, enabling customers to easily future proof their 3G SDI designs for an easy migration to 12G.

MACOM’s MACD-23582C cable driver and MAEQ-23644C/54C/64C equalizer family will be showcased at IBC 2017, Booth #10.D12, September 15th-19th in the RAI Exhibition and Convention Center in Amsterdam.
