The Word & Brown Companies Announce the Sale of HealthCompare, Quotit, and Book of Medicare and IFP Business to National General

The Word & Brown Companies, a leading health-insurance and employee-benefits provider headquartered in Orange County, announced the sale of HealthCompare, Quotit, and a book of Medicare and Individual and Family Plan (IFP) focused business to National General Holdings Corp. (Nasdaq:NGHC). The sale does not affect small group, large group, or IFP business through the Word & Brown General Agency.

HealthCompare helps individuals, families, and those eligible for Medicare research, compare, buy, and enroll in health insurance in all 50 states. Licensed agents and General Agencies subscribe to Quotit technology to power their online proposal and enrollment activities and gain access to more than 40,000 on- and off-exchange Individual & Family Plans (IFP) and Medicare insurance plans through more than 300 carriers. Both companies were among the first awarded a Federally Facilitated Exchanges Web Broker Entity (FFE WBE) Agreement by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2013.

National General specializes in Consumer insurance products, including Health, Ancillary and Medicare products.

“Our long-standing relationship with National General and their willingness to invest in the long-term success for HealthCompare and Quotit in a post ACA environment solidified the deal,” said John Word III, co-founder of The Word & Brown Companies. Co-founder Rusty Brown added, “We believe this is the right move for everyone.”

The Word & Brown Companies will continue to focus efforts on the Word & Brown General Agency, CHOICE Administrators, California Rx Card and Nevada Drug Card programs.
