PG&E Creates New California External Affairs Organization as Part of Broader Realignment of the Company’s Strategy, Policy and Outreach Efforts

Pacific Gas and Electric Company today announced the restructuring of its state external affairs functions in order to more effectively engage with stakeholders to meet the needs of customers and the state.

Effective March 1, Vice President Travis Kiyota will lead the newly formed California External Affairs organization, which will consolidate the existing functions of state government relations, state agency relations, local public affairs and community relations as well as a new functional area responsible for external affairs and strategic initiatives.

Kiyota will report to Steve Malnight, senior vice president of the newly constituted Strategy and Policy organization. As previously announced, Malnight’s new organization comprises strategy, policy, grid integration and innovation, energy procurement, local, state and federal affairs and community relations. This organizational structure is intended to ensure that stakeholder outreach and engagement are fully integrated with strategy and policy.

“In his expanded position, Travis will play a key role in ensuring that we are collaborating effectively with policymakers and our partners as we work together to meet California’s clean energy goals,” Malnight said.

“At PG&E, ‘Together, Building a Better California’ isn’t just a tagline. It’s a guiding principle and we are honored to have the opportunity to work in partnership with California stakeholders and policymakers to help build and sustain a state that leads the country in energy technology, innovation and policy,” Kiyota said.

Reporting to Kiyota will be:

  • Senior Director Brandon Hernandez, who will lead External Affairs and Strategic Initiatives, with responsibility for supporting PG&E’s advocacy and education efforts within the state capitol, state agencies, and statewide organizations.
  • Senior Director Kent Kauss, who will lead state legislative policy development, tracking and analysis.
  • Senior Director Ananda Baron, who leads community relations and the PG&E Foundation.
  • Directors Mary Ellen Ittner and Papia Gambelin, who will lead local public affairs throughout the service territory.
