University Health System Partners with Premier Inc.

University Health System, a nationally-recognized teaching hospital and network of outpatient healthcare centers in San Antonio, Texas, has chosen Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading healthcare improvement company, to provide broad-based supply chain, clinical and financial analytics and services that support its efforts to deliver high-quality patient care and effectively manage costs.

“We are honored to have University Health System join Premier,” said Susan DeVore, president and CEO of Premier. “They are an industry leader in using advanced care delivery practices, new technologies and clinical research to treat the most challenging diseases.”

The academic health system signed a multi-year agreement for access to Premier’s enterprise-wide services, including supply chain and group purchasing services, as well as the PremierConnect® performance improvement platform to clinically integrate and optimize care delivery practices. It will also use integrated clinical, financial and outcomes data management analytics to view information on utilization and variation, compare effectiveness and prioritize areas of improvement. This includes Premier’s clinician performance management solution to track and benchmark clinical outcomes and forecast the potential financial impact of future reimbursements.

“This is the latest step in our continuing efforts to improve healthcare in our community,” said George B. Hernández, Jr., JD, president and CEO at University Health System. “We are excited to partner with Premier to help us provide the highest quality of care possible through teaching and supporting advancements in medical knowledge to improve patient care. Through Premier, we can use integrated data and shared insights to further transform our clinical practices while better managing costs.”

University Health System is a member of America’s Essential Hospitals, which represents more than 300 hospitals dedicated to caring for the vulnerable and training the nation’s healthcare workforce. Premier has an exclusive partnership with America’s Essential Hospitals to drive new advances in care quality, costs and population health at essential hospitals.

“Leading academic providers like University Health System have a growing need to ensure their care models will achieve success in an industry quickly moving toward value-based payment and care delivery,” said Andrew Ziskind, MD, senior vice president of academic health system strategy, Premier. “We look forward to working with University Health System and supporting them in this environment with our experience, vast network of clinicians and researchers, and data-driven performance improvement solutions. We welcome them to our alliance and hope to exceed their expectations in improving care quality and financial sustainability.”

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The partnership is not expected to materially impact Premier’s fiscal 2018 financial results.
