“Working closely with our key customers, Semtech continues to innovate on industry metrics to deliver innovative, industry-leading IC solutions,” said Raza Khan, Senior Market Manager for Semtech’s Signal Integrity Products Group. “Through Semtech’s proprietary DML compensation technology, GN2152 is designed to enable custom low cost optics, such as Fabry-Perot or Distributed Feedback lasers, at a total module power less than 900mW.”
Phase one of the 5G front haul requires 25G NRZ links at extremely low cost and power, with high performance. More than one million base station deployments are expected in 2020, with more than 70 percent of these links delivering 300m or 10km reach. The cost of optical modules is a major barrier to enabling this high volume segment, with optical lasers being a major cost factor for these modules. Enabling lower cost, reduced bandwidth optical lasers offers a significant savings to our customers.
GN2152 is available for immediate sampling with production scheduled to begin March 2020. Semtech will also offer a complete Reference Design Kit (RDK), including module-level firmware, to enable the rapid adoption of Semtech’s optical solutions. The RDK maximizes value for customers and enables seamless access to the growing 5G wireless market.
