Global 2023 Utilities & Independent Power Producers Outlook: Resilient but With Some Challenges

DBRS Morningstar released a commentary titled “Global 2023 Utilities & Independent Power Producers Outlook: Resilient but With Some Challenges.” We have a neutral outlook for the global utilities and independent power producers (IPP) industry for 2023. While there are heightened challenges for the year, such as concerns over affordability and potential energy constraints, we expect any rating actions to be issuer-specific and event-driven. The resiliency of our ratings in this sector continues to be based on generally robust regulatory frameworks in place for the regulated utilities and the high level of contracted or hedged output for IPPs.
