Global ABS 2022 Conference: Key Takeaways
DBRS Morningstar released a commentary entitled “Global ABS 2022 Conference: Key Takeaways”, which summarises the major themes of this year’s Global ABS in-person conference held from June 14 to June 16. The panels explored a number of topical trends in the markets, but focused significantly on the following:-- Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations,
-- The intersections between ESG and securitisation regulation,
-- The lingering impact of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the increase in cost of living, and tightening monetary policies across asset classes, and
-- Emerging asset classes in structured finance.
“After the pandemic-induced hiatus and last year's hybrid event being held in London, this year's conference returned to its traditional setting of sun, sea, and securitisation in Barcelona. The change in conference venue from last year, though, did little to lift the general mood of the market. The market was barely open pre-conference and the gathering of experts did little to lift tepid sentiments caused by rising inflation, tightening monetary policies, rising geopolitical issues, and erratic spread movements”, said Mudasar Chaudry, Head of European Structured Finance Research at DBRS Morningstar.
