Container shipping equities

AP Moller Maersk (APMM) reported its 2Q20 numbers on 19 August 2020 recording a second successive profit from continuing operations. The group reported a profit of USD 443mn, almost three times the figure in 2Q19, despite a revenue decline of 6.5% YoY. Similar to most of its peers, APMM’s profit was driven mainly by higher freight rates, lower fuel prices and cost optimisation that helped offset a slump in demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such its group EBITDA grew by 25% YoY in 2Q20 to USD 1.70bn and the group EBIT surged to USD 751mn (81% up YoY)..
