Rurelecâ€™s trading statement demonstrated its positioning for a return to growth following the Bolivian arbitration settlement. Progress was made in each of the groupâ€™s operations: offers at premium to book value being considered for stake sales in the Chilean projects; construction of the Canchayllo hydro project in Peru complete and due to enter service in October; and record running levels at the Energia del Sur (EdS) plant in Argentina. With a stake sale in the Canchayllo project agreed and expected to release funds, and with alliances being explored with large regional players across Latin America, Rurelec is seeking to accelerate growth without recourse to shareholders in preparation for a return to dividends.

Co. has 50.0% joint arrangement within investment in Patagonia Energy Limited, which owns 100% of Energia del Sur S.A in Argentina.

Initiation: Bolivian compensation clears path to growth

Rurelec has emerged from four years of uncertainty as its arbitration claim against the Bolivian government for the forced nationalisation of its local power assets has concluded. Compensation of US$31.5m (Â£19.0m) has now been received, less than half the minimum management originally expected. Some of the proceeds will be used to fund the remaining equity for 296MW of new capacity in Chile and the first phases of 65MW of projects in Peru.
