Update: Pinto Energy acquisition
We continue to view the commercialisation of a small-scale GTL opportunity as the single most important share price driver for Velocys (VLS). Delivery of a first commercial project should de-risk the proposition for industry players and investors and accelerate the small-scale GTL market. The acquisition of Pinto Energy adds another project to VLS’s portfolio, with a near-term horizon to completing financing for the Ashtabula GTL plant. Through the acquisition VLS gets a better insight into the project development of a GTL project and greater control in moving a plant to commercialisation, leveraging its commercial relationships. The Pinto Energy management team in turn gets deeper ties with its technology partner and, through a share-based transaction, gets the upside through VLS’s share price if the project is commercialised.Velocys is engaged in designing, developing, marketing and sale of technology for the production of synthetic fuels (and specialty products). ENVIA Energy, LLC is a joint venture, of which Co. is a member, formed to produce renewable fuels and chemicals from landfill gas and natural gas using gas-to-liquids (GTL). Co.'s technology is specifically designed for smaller scale GTL and biomass-to-liquids, combining catalysts with intensified reactor systems. The GTL and BTL processes have three main steps: production of syngas, the Fischer-Tropsch process and subsequent upgrading to produce finished products: high quality diesel, jet fuel and speciality products as well as naphtha.
