Good Morning Nigeria: Four favoured sectors underborrowed

Four favoured sectors underborrowed

Today we draw on the CBN’s most recent Quarterly Statistical Bulletin to provide some colour on DMBs’ lending by sector. The series was improved with effect from February (2015) to show separately the industry and services components of lending to oil and gas companies. It is common knowledge that the sector is the largest single beneficiary of the DMBs’ loans. Our risk assessment is liable to change, however, now that we see industrial operations in the sector received 17.2% of the pie in September 2015 and services providers 9.2%. Sector shares overall were not very different from those in March 2015 although the total declined by N350bn to N13.01trn (US$65.4bn).
