Charter Financial is a savings and loan holding company. Through its subsidiary, CharterBank, the company's principal business consists of accepting retail deposits from the general public and investing those deposits, together with funds generated from operations, in commercial real estate loans, one- to four-family residential mortgage loans, construction loans, investment securities, commercial business loans, home equity loans and lines of credit and other consumer loans. In addition, the company provides deposit products, such as checking, money market, regular savings and term certificate accounts. As of Sep 30 2016, the company had total assets of $1.44 billion and total deposits of $1.16 billion.
