Summary
The single most important investment theme for the film and TV sectors is internet TV. The catalyst for this theme to take off is the launch of a “pure internet TV†whose operating system – unlike a smart TV – can “see†everything a viewer does on the television. We expect Apple, Google or Roku to launch such a device later in 2015. Its effect will be negative for TV broadcasters, reducing both pay TV subscription revenues and TV advertising revenues. European broadcasters like ProSieben, TF1 and Mediaset are the most exposed.
Content creators like Lions Gate and Time Warner will benefit from a bidding war for content as more technology companies enter the internet TV market
