Baristas Coffee Joins Coca-Cola Eyeing Cannabis Market Hinting at Marijuana Derivatives as Part of New Infused Functional Beverages Causing Stocks to Soar

SEATTLE, Oct. 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via OTC PR WIRE -- Earlier this week Baristas Coffee Company (OTCPK:) hinted in a press release that its new functional beverage line "EnrichaRoast" may contain THC and CBD as a component in some of its wellness drinks. Although the Company did not specifically say so, it made it clear that its new line would be available "in states where they are legal" and that some potential benefits may or may not include" the slowing of cancer cells, prevention of Alzheimer's, treatment of Glaucoma, relief from Arthritis, decreased Anxiety, and reportedly other healthy effects." All of these benefits are generally contributed to Cannabis and its derivative products.

Baristas stock was up 50% this week and has a history of exceptionally strong gains even without any mention of Marijuana.

This is after Coca-Cola Co. said it's eyeing the cannabis drinks market, becoming the latest beverage company to tap into surging demand for marijuana products as traditional sales slow. While Coke has made it clear that it has no interest in Marijuana products that contain THC the active ingredient that gets one high, Baristas has not been as conservative. Baristas has consistently stated "in states that are legal" when discussing the benefits of its "EnrichaRoast" functional beverages.

Baristas is no stranger to controversial positions. Keep in mind that this is the company that popularized "Costume Coffee" which led to the bikini baristas phenomenon. They also were thrust into the public eye when they were the subject of the edgy reality show "Grounded in Seattle" which aired on WEtv. Recently they have been seen during NFL Monday and Thursday Night Football, The Major League Baseball Network during Playoff time, and have been promoted together international icons such as supermodels Front Montgomery, and super mogul Kathy Ireland. They have also been featured during Shark Tank on CNBC CNN, ESPN, Food Network, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Forbes Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and other notable media.

Beverage industry analysts see more branded cannabis beverage growth coming soon including for both THC and high-CBD beverages. Coca-Cola says it's monitoring the nascent industry and is interested in drinks infused with CBD -- the non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that treats pain but doesn't get you high. The Atlanta-based soft drinks maker is in talks with Canadian marijuana producer to develop the beverages, according to a  from BNN Bloomberg Television.

"We are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world," Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News. "The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time." Landers declined to comment on Aurora.

Aurora's shares surged on the news, jumping as much as 23 percent. Other stocks in the cannabis industry got a boost, with Tilray Inc. adding as much as 9.4 percent in response to Coca-Cola's interest.

As a growing number of U.S. states move toward legalizing marijuana and Canada moves to full legalization, more beverage companies are taking an active interest in exploring cannabis infusions in the mainstream consumer beverage market.

The use of coffee, the world's most consumed beverage, seems like a great place to start.
